Talented young students are turning Bendigo’s new protective bollards into works of moveable street art as part of the Andrews Labor Government’s commitment to keeping communities safe.
Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan MP today visited local students working on the art project at Thistle Street Recreation Reserve.
The custom-made relocatable concrete bollards will act as heavy vehicle barriers in Bendigo’s CBD, helping to protect the community during public events in the heart of the city.
The bollards will also add to Bendigo’s vibrant streetscape when they are placed in key locations around the city’s centre between events, with the colourful designs on show to visitors and the community.
Greater Bendigo City Council was awarded a $49,505 Community Safety Infrastructure Grant for the safety bollards, through the Labor Government’s Community Crime Prevention Program.
The Community Safety Infrastructure Grant is part of the $2.7 billion Building Works package, which has provided an economic stimulus to Victoria following the COVID-19 pandemic.
The project will feature the work of students from Bendigo South East College Academy of Creative Arts program, Camp Hill Primary School and Eaglehawk Secondary College as well as local community groups.
The Community Crime Prevention Program has provided more than $45 million towards almost 800 projects across Victoria since 2015.
