Work is underway to convert the old Bendigo Hospital into the new Bendigo Health Day Rehabilitation Centre on the old Bendigo Hospital site.
“It’s great to get works underway that will give locals access to state of the art rehabilitation services, funded by the Andrews Labor Government..” Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan MP said.
“The new hospital gave Bendigo top class acute health facilities. Now it will be complimented by top rate facilities in a range of rehabilitation, allied health and other services.”
The $59.5 million project will consolidate rehabilitation services into one new location and provide a holistic approach to deliver patient-centred care.
Ms Allan said services offered in the Centre will include Rehabilitation, Dental and Breast screening, community mental health and a brand-new hydrotherapy pool.
“The project is expected to create and sustain around 180 construction industry jobs and construction is expected to be completed by late 2022..”
“Once the construction is complete the old Towers at the front of the new hospital site will be demolished in the first half of 2023.”
“The new hospital and this new facility will make up a fantastic health precinct.”
Bendigo Health Board Chair, Bob Cameron said the Centre would deliver world class facilities for patients who are currently cared for in outdated buildings which are no longer fit for purpose.
“This is an exciting day for Bendigo, the commencement of works means we are one step closer to having fantastic facilities for all our patients.
“Staff are looking forward to working in a purpose-built facility, they know from our experience of the new hospital that this makes a noticeable difference to the patient experience.”
