Major upgrade works at Bendigo Health’s Golden Oaks Nursing Home are now underway, thanks to a massive funding boost from the Andrews Labor Government.
Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan MP and Member for Bendigo West Maree Edwards MP today joined Bendigo Health to turn the first sod of a new aged care wing and refurbishments at Golden Oaks Nursing Home.
Nearly $5 million has been invested to secure the future of the public facility and build a new 15-bed aged care wing, enabling most residents to move from a double to a single room.
Refurbishments to the existing facility will give residents more private and comfortable bedrooms, and more modern amenities. A dining room and kitchen upgrade will also allow for meals to be cooked fresh onsite.
The redevelopment is part of a second stage of upgrades for the Golden Square Aged Care precinct and is funded through the Labor Government’s Regional Health Infrastructure Fund.
The project is expected to create around 10 jobs and is due to be complete at the end of 2020.
Stage one works completed earlier this year included the creation of a large space linking Golden Oaks Nursing Home and Carshalton House Hostel, as well as a new lifestyle room with cinema, café, reception and office space. A nine-bed area for residents needing higher level care was also upgraded.
Victoria has the largest public residential aged care sector in the country. These services play a vital role providing care in many regional and rural communities where there are no other services, and for Victoria’s most vulnerable older people with complex physical or mental health needs.
The Labor Government is continuing to revitalise Victoria’s public sector aged care by upgrading current services, investing in public residential aged care services and supporting multicultural aged care.
