For the second year in a row, Bendigo will host National Basketball League games, providing a spectacle for local fans, supporting jobs and boosting the city’s economy.
State Labor Members for Bendigo Jacinta Allan MP and Maree Edwards MP today announced the New Zealand Breakers will play two games in the city, supported by the government’s Significant Sporting Events Program and the City of Greater Bendigo.
The Breakers will play South-East Melbourne Phoenix on Sunday 10 April and Sydney Kings on Tuesday 12 April. Tickets to the games go on sale through Ticketek on Monday 21 March.
The games will be played at the world class Bendigo Stadium, which meets elite competition standards thanks to a $5 million investment by the Victorian Government.
The stadium holds 4000 spectators and it’s expected every seat will be filled as the games are taking place in the middle of school holidays.
The games will be telecast live in Australia and New Zealand, and the South-East Melbourne Phoenix game will be broadcast in China, where player Zhou Qi has a massive fan base.
The Significant Sporting Events Program supports organisations to deliver national, international or significant regional events. Since December 2014, it has secured more than 460 events boosting local jobs and economies, and showcasing regions.
It’s part of the Victorian Government’s strong commitment to sport and active recreation, and to encouraging and inspiring all Victorians to get out there and get active.
