Supporting Women's leadership in Bendigo
Thursday, 25 February 2010
Bendigo region women will have the opportunity to develop leadership skills with the help of a $16,000 Brumby Labor Government grant.
Minister for Women's Affairs Maxine Morand announced the grant today to the Bendigo Sustainability Group to help train 20 women to lead workshops around leadership and skills development.
"The Brumby Labor Government is taking action to drive opportunities for women to broaden and diversify their leadership skills," Ms Morand said.
"This is a great project which combines two important issues - informing people about sustainable living and developing the leadership skills of women in the community.
"The grant will be used to train 20 local women to present a two hour sustainability workshop. The women will then run their own workshops for others in the community."
"These grants are part of our Government's commitment to providing women with opportunities to develop and grow in their communities.
"The grants are being provided for projects that will support women's leadership in areas such as performing arts, secondary schools, not for profit and community sectors, regional communities, local government, sport and the environment."
The $16,000 Women's Leadership grant is among 20 being delivered across the state by the Brumby Labor Government's $250,000 program.
Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan said the project would be fantastic for women in the region.
"The grant will enable the Bendigo Sustainability Group to educate and inform women in the Bendigo area about sustainability and at the same time help them develop their leadership and presentation skills," Ms Allan said.
"I congratulate the Bendigo Sustainability Group for providing opportunities for women's leadership and I'm delighted that the Brumby Labor Government can assist through this grant."
Further Women's Leadership Grants will be rolled out over the next few weeks.
