The hospital Air Link Bridge – in 10 sections – is arriving in Arnold Street.

State Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan, said it was an exciting weekend for the project and Bendigo.

“Come Saturday night there will be one span over Arnold Street, joining the two stages of the Bendigo Hospital Project and creating a united health precinct,” she said.

Today the four sections which make up the lower level will be joined into two pieces, just over 30 metres each, ready to be lifted in place on Saturday morning.

The 65 metre long air link bridge will provide access from the carpark and helipad to the hospital building and will have two levels. The lower level will provide pedestrian access from the carpark to the hospital building, and the top level will be for the transport of patients arriving via air ambulance helicopter.

“This is an exciting milestone and this bridge is sure to become a landmark for Bendigo,” Ms Allan said.

Bendigo Health Chairman, Bob Cameron, said on Sunday the six pieces that make up the top level will be lifted into place.

After the bridge is in place, works to the façade and concreting will commence next week. The façade will be made up of 358 pieces and 54 cubic metres of concrete will be placed early next week in the two levels of the bridge floor.
