New 8 bed ward for Bendigo Hospital
Friday, 12 March 2010
The Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan, today announced the completion of a new 8 bed ward at the Bendigo Hospital.
"The opening of the new ‘Medical One' ward provides an additional 8 beds for Bendigo Health," Ms Allan said.
"The new ward is made up of two 3 bed rooms and two 1 bed rooms. One of these rooms is a Class ‘N' negative pressure room and can also accommodate bariatric patients."
"These additional 8 beds will provide vital additional capacity for the hospital and will be of great assistance to Bendigo Health to meet the hospital needs of the local community."
Ms Allan also inspected the hospital's new $864,000 digital x-ray equipment.
"The new digital radiography unit means that Bendigo Health is now able to digitize x-rays, and provide a state of the art service to patients," she said.
The new ward and the digital radiography unit are funded from the $55 million allocated to Bendigo Health in the 2009/10 State Budget.
"These works are part of the Brumby Government's on-going program to build up Bendigo's health services."
"Labor was the only party at the 2006 election to commit to the process to build a new hospital for Bendigo and Labor is the only party to have made a funding commitment to building a new Hospital for Bendigo."
"The Labor Government has provided significant additional funds to the Bendigo Hospital that has enabled it to employ an extra 284 nurses since 1999."
