Local History Grants - call for applications
Wednesday, 7 October 2009
Member for Bendigo East, Jacinta Allan today invited community groups in the Bendigo region to apply for grants of up to $12,000 for individual projects as part of the latest round of the Brumby Labor Government's Local History Grants Program.
‘'The Local History Grants Program celebrates local stories and supports communities to capture, share and preserve their histories."
"Each year, the program supports a range of activities such as written histories, the preservation of collections, making use of new technologies, or the teaching of valuable skills in order to commemorate and share the past,'' Ms Allan said.
Ms Allan said the program, run by Public Record Office Victoria, is open to not-for-profit community groups across the state.
"From sporting clubs, to churches, historical societies and school groups, there are so many groups with stories to tell. The Local History Grants program recognises and supports these organisations to ensure that these stories are not lost."
Ms Allan said the latest round of the program took on an added significance, as 2010 will mark the 175th Anniversary of European settlement in Victoria.
"By preserving and promoting our history we can reflect on, and learn from, the lessons of our past, so that we can continue building successful, cohesive communities in the future," Ms Kosky said.
Previously funded local history projects include:
• Newspaper microfilming and digitising;
• Work on the archives of historical societies, churches, schools, fire brigades and other groups;
• Projects for exhibitions in community halls and other public facilities;
• School-based projects;
• Historical murals and signage projects; and
• Book publishing projects.
Applications are now open and close on Monday 30 November 2009.
