Drummartin Primary School Christmas Carols

Tuesday, 20 December 2011

Jacinta Allan, Member for Bendigo East, was very pleased to be invited to attend the Drummartin Primary School Christmas Carols last night at the Kamarooka Hall.

As well as carols, Ms Allan attended to give out certificates to all the children from the school who contributed to her Christmas card competition this year. The winning entry for 2011 was Jaslyn McKay who is in Grade 4 at Drummartin PS.

Ms Allan said that though all of the contributions from schools around her electorate were delightful, Jaslyn had interpreted this year's theme "Christmas tree" in a uniquely and quirkily Australian way, giving a new meaning to a Christmas tree ‘decoration'.

Jaslyn no doubt inherited her lateral thinking from her ancestor H.V. MaKay, Drummartin's most famous resident, who invented the first combine harvester that separated wheat from chaff, the Sunshine Harvester. A display at the nearby Elmore Museum celebrates Mr McKay's invention.

Ms Allan presented Jaslyn with a book voucher for herself and one for the school and thanked her and all the children who had entered the competition.
